“The well-respected Ghanaian artist Ablade Glover has established this famous art scene,”⎯Omanye House⎯” which has become one of the most important art venues in Ghana. Three expansive art floors were exhibited in the cool marble gallery, exhibited by famous artists such as Owusu Ankomah and George Hughes, whose paintings reminiscent of Jean Michel Basquiat, Willem De Kooning, and other painters. It is a new and upcoming artist such as Ebenezer Borlabie. Market, country and urban scenes are full of political satire – of course, Glover himself has caged characters and intermittent crowd scenes.”

“There are also collectors’ works: Asafo logo appliqués and embroidered symbols; Akan and Ewe’s ancient banded knit Kente fabrics; African masks; and finely carved furniture. Also on display are crabs, running shoes and eagle-shaped full-size coffins. Everything is for sale.”

“The Artists Alliance Gallery has been dedicated to bringing attention to traditional and contemporary African art worldwide. The mission of the gallery is to provide art connoisseurs with rich and authentic contemporary art and traditional African art, as well as value-for-money art services. The gallery has invested a great deal of time and energy to ensure that the artists and artworks displayed are made of high-quality materials and craftsmanship to ensure their longevity.”  ⎯Artists Alliance Gallery

Orientalist Paintings

Part One

The Orientalist Paintings collection of the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia is among the world’s largest. As a pioneer institution of the Islamic world, the museum seeks to reclaim a heritage that reveals much about the Islamic past. An Orientalist painting is more than a work of art, it also provides insight into people, culture and places of a bygone era. The collection is about what European artists might have seen, rather than what they never could; in other words, it is about their personal reactions to the Islamic world influenced by a European perspective. No restrictions to photography during my visit on 7 Oct 2023.

Support For Mental Health

Journey of Hope

We strive to equip young adults to identify, understand and normalise their emotions; empower them to cope with adversity and respond positively to challenges; and help them develop positive strategies along with the tools and language skills they need to express their emotions safely all while building confidence and self-esteem.

Mental Health Awareness

Mental health affects most aspects of our life including our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It’s more common to be diagnosed with a mental health illness than you might think because chances are that more than 50% will be diagnosed with a mental illness or disorder at some point in their lifetime.

Even though we know that it’s common, there are still a lot of stigmas that surrounds mental illness. Unfortunately, more than half of people with a mental illness do not receive help for their disorders. And often, people avoid or delay seeking treatment due to concerns about being treated differently or fears of losing their jobs and livelihood. But there are organisations and campaigns that are encouraging conversations around mental wellbeing.

In light of raising awareness, below we have have listed some powerful mental health quotes that we hope you find comforting and encouraging on days that may be more difficult than others. While these quotes may help lessen some of what you’re feeling, we do advise that you speak with a licensed therapist who can help you cope by engaging long-term procedures and mechanisms.

"You don’t have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you."

— Dan Millman

"I think it’s really important to take the stigma away from mental health… My brain and my heart are really important to me. I don’t know why I wouldn’t seek help to have those things be as healthy as my teeth."

—Kerry Washington, from HuffPost

"Mental health…is not a destination, but a process. It’s about how you drive, not where you’re going."

— Noam Shpancer, PhD

"You are not your illness. You have an individual story to tell. You have a name, a history, a personality. Staying yourself is part of the battle."

— Julian Seifter

"Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they're never weakness."

— Brené Brown

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence. “What would a machine dream about after seeing the collection of The Museum of Modern Art? For Unsupervised, artist Refik Anadol (b. 1985) uses artificial intelligence to interpret and transform more than 200 years of art at MoMA. Known for his groundbreaking media works and public installations, Anadol has created digital artworks that unfold in real time, continuously generating new and otherworldly forms that envelop viewers in a large-scale installation.”
