Lady Cook

Lady Cook

food worker

As I explored the environs of El Wak Stadium, Accra, Ghana, site of the Dec 2023 AfroFuture music festival, this lady, taking a break from food preparation, caught my attention. Revealed is a face that reflects the inner beauty of the one on whom it rests.

Kezia Agyemanboafo

Afro-Future Musical Festival
El Wak Stadium, Accra, Ghana

My portrait of Kezia Agyemanboafo, a local lady, was captured the image while exploring the grounds within El Wak Stadium during the AfroFuture Music Festival, held on its last night in Accra, Ghana, 30 Dec 2023. Faced with poor and often fluctuating sources of light (not unusual and expected under these circumstances), I saw this lady on the ground with her face perfectly lit, and immediately asked if I could take a photo. I promised to complete a portrait and send her a copy. She nodded her approval, I took the shot, received her email, and later fulfilled my promise to her.

Beautiful Eritrean Ladies

Beautiful Eritrean Ladies

Young, beautiful, Eritrean Lady

The people of Eritrea come from nine different tribes and each tribe is different from the other in terms of language, music, clothes, food, customs and culture.

This lady is from the Kunama ethnic group indigenous to Eritrea, a Nilo-Saharan ethnic community living between the Gash and Setit (Mareb) rivers in Southwestern Eritrea, defining the boundary between Eritrea and Ethiopia.

She is a relative of Faytinga, a well known international singer and musician from Eritrea, though her mother.

Eritrea

The term “eritrea” derives from Sinus Erythraeus, the name Greek tradesmen of the third century B.C.E. gave to the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and the Africa continent (now known as the Red Sea). Later, during the Roman Empire, the Romans called it Mare Erythraeum, literary meaning “the red sea.” When Italy colonized a strip of land along the Red Sea in 1890, they gave it the name Eritrea.
